PSARA Meetings: Learn, Share, and Connect
PSARA meetings are a chance to explore radios of all kinds while spending time with people who enjoy learning, tinkering, and sharing stories. From early wireless to home radios made of wood, metal, plastic, Bakelite, and beyond, there’s always something interesting to see and talk about.
Whether you’re just getting started or have been enjoying radios for years, meetings are relaxed, welcoming, and easy to jump into.
Weekly Zoom Meetings
PSARA meets every Friday evening on Zoom, starting around 7 pm and usually going an hour or so. These weekly get-togethers make it easy to participate from anywhere and are a great way to get to know the club and are available for members and visitors. If you’d like to join a session, please contact us to request the link.
Weekly Zoom meetings often include:
- Presentations on radio history, science, and restoration
- Informal discussions and Q&A
- Show-and-tell moments where members share current projects
- Stories about radios found, repaired, restored, or remembered
No special equipment or deep technical knowledge is needed — curiosity and interest are more than enough.
Visitors are always welcome to join a Zoom meeting to see what PSARA is about. Weekly Zoom get-togethers are available for members and visitors. If you’d like to join a session, please contact us to request the link.
Monthly In-Person & Hybrid Meetings
Once a month, PSARA holds an in-person meeting, with a Zoom link open so remote participants can join as well. These meetings add a hands-on, social side to the hobby and are full of activity.
Mini Swap Meet & Social Time
The day usually begins around 8:00 am with a mini swap meet. When the weather is good, it takes place outside in the parking lot; when it’s cold or rainy, it moves indoors. Coffee and snacks are available, and there’s plenty of time to browse radios and parts, talk with others, and catch up.
Workbench Area
A workbench is set up where an experienced repair person can help members and guests:
- Learn how to approach diagnosing radio issues
- Become familiar with safe use of test equipment
- Talk through repair challenges and possible next steps
This area is especially popular with newer radio enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys learning by doing.
Demonstrations & Show and Tell
Around 10:00 am, demonstrations and Show and Tell begin, and the Zoom meeting opens so remote attendees can participate.
Past demonstrations have included:
- Wooden cabinet repair
- Restoring a WWII military radio
- Vintage television repair equipment
- Kit building
- Hands-on tube testing using several testers, including a Hickok
- Crystal radio building classes
Show and Tell gives members a chance to share projects, discoveries, or lessons learned, and questions from the group are always encouraged.
Business Meeting
At 11:30 am, the PSARA business meeting begins. Guests are welcome to attend. Officers give brief reports, and members discuss old and new business related to the club.
